Insurance is where medical trips to China are most often misunderstood, so it is worth working through before anything else. International and expatriate policies differ in what they cover inside China, and coverage is not automatic just because a policy is described as worldwide. Check first whether your plan covers out-of-country treatment at all, and if so whether it covers the hospital type you are considering. Some policies limit reimbursement for public teaching hospitals, restrict which departments are covered, or require treatment to be medically necessary rather than elective. Ask about waiting periods, pre-existing condition exclusions and claim limits for the specific city and provider. Then ask about the settlement path. Direct billing means the hospital collects payment from the insurer and you pay only the balance; reimbursement means you pay the hospital and claim later. Arrangements are hospital- and insurer-specific, and an intermediary can usually confirm them in writing before you book, which is safer than assuming. On payment, ask what the hospital accepts, whether a deposit is required before the visit, and in what currency the invoice is issued. Keep itemised invoices and receipts for every service, since insurers usually require them in the patient's name. If you are covered by a corporate plan, confirm who submits the claim. HealthBridge quotes coordination fees separately and does not mark up medical costs.
Possibly, but not automatically. Coverage depends on your specific policy, the hospital type and department involved, and whether the care is classified as medically necessary. Confirm this with your insurer in writing before booking, including any pre-authorisation steps.
Keep the itemised invoice for each service, proof of payment, referral letters, discharge summary and translated reports. Insurers generally require documents in the patient's name, and some require certified translations, so ask in advance what format your policy needs.
