Cost is the first question people ask about medical care in China, and the honest answer is that it depends more on the service and the setting than on any single national rate. Diagnostics and imaging are typically priced well below Western markets, while more complex care varies widely between public teaching hospitals, private hospitals and international departments, sometimes within one city. Start with a written quote before you travel. Ask which items the quote covers, which are billed separately, and what happens if extra tests are recommended during the visit. Itemised billing is standard practice, so an invoice can usually be reconciled line by line. Several factors move the price: the hospital tier and city, the specific department, whether you go through an international wing, the volume of imaging or pathology work, and how much interpretation or coordination you need. Bundled packages may include tests you would not otherwise book, which changes the value of any comparison. Payment mechanics deserve attention too. Many hospitals accept local mobile payment apps and bank cards, and some support international insurance settlement or corporate invoicing, but arrangements differ and must be confirmed in advance. Ask what currency the invoice is issued in and what documentation your insurer needs. HealthBridge never marks up medical costs; coordination fees are quoted separately and agreed in writing before any commitment.
You can usually get a written quote for a defined package, which covers the listed tests. Any additional tests recommended during the visit are quoted separately. Ask for the itemised breakdown so you can compare packages on the same basis.
Medical costs are paid to the hospital, either directly by you or through your insurer where direct billing is arranged. A coordinator's own fee is separate and agreed in writing. Confirm both amounts before the visit so there are no surprises.
