Why the Spread Is So Large
The gap is not about quality — it is about which hospital you enter. A ¥499 package is a public hospital’s entry-level ‘core only’ screen. A ¥34,000 package is an executive private international wing with whole-body MRI.
Beijing and Shanghai have the deepest executive markets and the highest absolute prices, but also the most senior specialists. Tier-2 cities like Hangzhou, Chengdu, and Xi’an give you excellent public hospital screening at much lower cost.
What the Starting Price Usually Excludes
Almost always: CT, MRI, endoscopy, and expanded tumor markers. Those turn a ¥800 visit into a ¥4,000 one. Ask which tier includes imaging before you commit to a starting price.
Which City Should You Choose?
If you need a specific senior specialist — cardiology at Fuwai, hematology at Ruijin, neurology at Huashan — go to the city where that specialty is strongest, regardless of price. For a general preventive screen, a tier-2 city with a strong Grade 3A hospital gives you better value than a premium Shanghai package.
